UArts – does everyone get snail mail whether accepted or not? S auditioned in Chicago and we haven’t heard…supposed to be about three weeks later, it’s been four, and I’m driving myself crazy waiting for the mail every day. @-)
My D auditioned in NY at unifieds and got her acceptance (with a great scholarship) over the weekend. so she was a week or so before your S…sending good thoughts you way!
SUNY Purchase was around the 3rd week in March last year.
We heard from Purchase in April…
@CrashCourseMom, last year Emerson also said April 1st for decisions but decisions went out mid-March. I believe everyone finds out the same day via that portal.
End of March by snail mail for USC (also on their portal). But… there is a hint for some who receive an invitation to USC’s Theatre Open House on April 4 (I think–Sat). The invitation only goes to admitted students, so if you get it you are (very very likely) admitted. Due to vagaries of US Mail, sometimes that postcard invite is not delivered. So you can’t be sure if you don’t get one. It’s confusing. And the post card does not say you are admitted, so… but over the past 8 years, it has always come to pass. And why would they invited a non-admitted student to see the big musical if only disappointment were to arrive just before the weekend of the Open House? Good luck to all applying to USC.
Sigh. I wish I could go back to not having the UArts rejection that came in the mail yesterday. At least when we hadn’t heard there was still hope. :-<
We are down to one school to hear from. I know everyone says don’t worry, it just takes one acceptance, etc. – but for a lot of reasons I won’t go into yet, I am not expecting that one to happen. He actually really likes Columbia College, which he’s been accepted to, and might choose them even if he gets into the last school. But he will feel a lot better about wherever he goes if he at least has a choice.
@CrashCourseMom, a couple of the boys from my S’s youth theater program are at Columbia College Chicago and really happy and doing well. They’re both sophomores and both have been cast in main stage productions. This is a horrible process. Hang in there.
CrashCourseMom, I hear you. This is a terrible process, just excruciating to watch. I want to offer one thing I heard once from Moo at a presentation (I have a D and not a son, so what I’m about to say, you will need to translate a bit). She said, if you have a girl, who is not ethnically diverse, she will need to apply to 15 BFA programs, in order to get into 1. If she gets into 2, then she has done very well. So, all that is to say, the odds are very tough on these kids. Your son has one very good option. I hope he gets to have 2, but he has already done just fine. Hang in there!
@madbean, is USC really doing their Open House on Sat. 4/4? That’s Easter weekend, so I’m surprised.
@hatewaiting, I really don’t know. It may be the following weekend! The musical runs both weekends, I believe, and in the past, the Open House always included an invitation to see the show plus a reception and other events. Sorry if I misled you. Just trying to recall what they do. My son is a senior so it’s been a while.
USC SDA open house is April 11th. My D received a post card but it states that the postcard is not an imply an offer of admission. Maybe not the same postcard, or they changed it? Either way this process excruciating. D auditioned at 10 programs. Yes =1; Waitlist = 1; No = 3; others pending.
@bravehearheart52, they say that’s a very good indication from USC. Are you in California? You’re the first person to receive the postcard.
In upper Midwest. Just read about this USC open house postcard. Saw it in passing through mail, maybe last two weekends. Almost tossed it out. LOL. All on pins and needles regardless. D has been doing acting (commercials & theater) long enough to know never to read into anything in this business. Certainly USC BFA acting would be a dream for her.
braveheart52- When did the post card come? Anyone else out there receive one?
Boom22: maybe sometime over past two weekends or so ; did not know it could mean anything LOL but did think about the illogic of it. Still convinced of this… D auditioned at USC & Chapman mid-February. D felt performed great monologues & interviews. After USC audition, associate Dean Lori did send her a very nice email which was unique of all the other programs. Sounds like Chapman already making calls?
Has anyone heard from LAMDA? My son auditioned 1/31 in Los Angeles; thought we would have heard something by now
Braveheart52 That sounds like a slam dunk! Maybe they sent it to you early to make sure you had time to get there and get cheaper flights!
@Jkellynh17 & @YardleySisa, thanks for commiserating. He really likes Columbia CC a LOT – as I said he might have picked it anyway over some of the schools he auditioned for. The “audition into BFA” part makes me a little nervous, because I’d rather have that piece settled, but we can’t change that. He isn’t well-suited academically for a BA program vs. a BFA.
He only auditioned for five schools, in part because we got started SO late with the process, but also because he is the poster child for stubbornness. I will have a cautionary tale for future hopeful BFAs to tell after all this. :-S
My D received a “Save the Date” postcard for the USC SDA Open house in late December. Not sure if it’s the same postcard @braveheart52 is referring to. I wouldn’t call it an invitation and it also says it does not imply an offer of admission. Just took it for face value…we are making you aware of this in the event you are offered admission.
