SHC Engineering Scholarship

Hey everyone..I was recently admitted the to the SHC and in my acceptance letter it mentioned that i was awarded an 8k/yr engineering school scholarship in addition to the standard 4k/yr from schreyers..i was just wondering if every engineer in schreyers gets this since the letter seemed pretty impersonal

I got 4k/yr from the College of Engineering.

Scholarship announcements at PSU are either impersonal or absent. My last year I was on 100% scholarship, never got any formal notification for most of them - the exception being a scholarship that included an invite to a brunch.

I think the scholarship you both received were very individual offers. Congratulations!

thank you very much! This is awesome…im out of state so i figure with the 12k/year a psu education will only run me roughly 26k/year…am i correct?

Not counting books and spending cash, yes.

Not to put down my alma mater, but I am always astonished that OOS students are willing to pay that kind of money for PSU… aren’t there any in-state or private options that are better? That is a serious question, btw, I really am curious if this is actually a good deal.

Do other colleges within Penn State offer similar scholarships to Schreyer Students? If I were to switch out of Engineering could I expect a similar scholarship from, say, the Eberly College of Science to take the place of the Engineering one?

in my opinion cosmicfish…going to schreyers for 26k/yr is an awesome deal…for example i got a full ride + room & board for 4 years from rutgers and havent even considered it

No, you can never “expect” to receive scholarships in any transfer situation. I’m not saying that you would never get a replacement scholarship, but it’s extremely unlikely and certainly not something to plan on. This is true at any school, and certainly not just at PSU. Quite frankly, scholarships are offered as an inducement to get you to enroll, they are not entitlements due to superior stats and/or EC’s. Once the school gets you to matriculate, they no longer have much reason to “bribe” you if you want to transfer to another department and/or college internally.

Of course, if you were in Schreyer (and maintain your eligibility), you would continue to recieve the Scheyer scholarship, regardless of what college you might transfer to, but not departmental/college-based scholarships.
