I found it in a songbook listed on this site for $39.95. Hope this helps!

The composers/lyricists no longer have the individual song for purchase; however, they have published Goldrich & Heisler, Songbook Volume 1. Their website is: http://goldrichandheisler.com

They have it listed for $26.37.

Good Luck!

Howdy - I'm looking to transpose a song down a halfstep or 2. The song is "And They're Off" from A New Brain. You can not transpose this one on sheetmusic.com.

Does anyone happen to know of any source that can transpose sheet music, or for this particular song?

Thanks

Okay, i should have looked harder! I found what I needed on dalymusic.com. Sry :)

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll give them a call tomorrow. For some reason the on-line ordering is not working for me.

Happy Thanksgiving (belated)

Does anybody have any clue where I could find sheet music for the song "No More" from See What I Wanna See? I need it ASAP, so any ideas would be great!

Actually.......does anyone know of the BEST website that helps find hard to locate ( or vintage) sheet music? Thanks!

Mainstage- If you are looking for digital sheet music (downloadable and printable) then 2 great sites are www.musicnotes.com and www.dalymusic.com
Good luck!

Kyle style,

Hey all,
I have recently listened to the I LOVE YOU BECAUSE cast recording and I love several of the songs. But I can't seem to find any sheet music for it anywhere! Anyone know where I might find it?

Be careful- a half-step can place your song into a very weird sounding minor key or something that doesn't sound a bit like the composer planned. A whole stop would be the better option.

Actually, transposing a song down half a step would not "place your song into some weird sounding key or something that doesn't sound a bit like the composer planned". That would only happen if the person who tranposed the piece did not know what he was doing.

It is true that by transposing a song down a half step one would sometimes move from a key signature with only a small number of sharps or flats to a key signature with many. An example would be moving from C major, which has no sharps or flats to the key of B major, which has 5 sharps. However, sometimes moving down a half step can make the key signature easier. If one transposed a piece in B major to the key of B flat, you'd go from 5 sharps to only 2 flats, which most inexperienced pianists would consider to be easier. Another example would be moving from the key of F sharp major (6 sharps) to F major ( 1 flat). Most inexperienced pianists would prefer 1 flat to 6 sharps. I would suggest checking out transposition issues with a competent pianist to find out whether a particular change of key would cause difficulties for an accompanist.

A decent musician should be able to transpose a song from any key into any other key. Of course, humans can make mistakes, but anyone who transposes music would normally sit down and play the finished result to check for errors. Nowdays, there are nifty computer programs that allow musicians to play a piece into a MIDI keyboard then instruct the computer to tranpose the piece into the desired key. Voila! The computer will print out the piece in the new key.

Actually, depending on WHAT you are using the song for, you should check and see if it is permitted to transpose the original key! For most auditions, you can not change the key signature and must sing it as originally written, if is is for a performance, then, by all means, go with what works for you, but LISTEN to the transposed version first so that it sounds the way you want it to. It is not a matter of making it easier for the accompanist, the integrity of the piece and the composers intentions muct be maintained. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't! We are lucky to have many great accompanists around here who can change a piece right while you are standing there on a director's suggestion-that is a true gift. Remember. ALWAYS thank your accompanist, they can make a good singer sound great and a great singer magnificent !

It is fine and a common practice to use tranposed music for most professional and collegiate auditions. The exceptions would be:

tranposing something that is known for specific money notes (difficult-to-sing phrases and notes) in order to avoid those notes

tranposing a song in a way that changes the original vocal presentation (belt into legit, etc.) - AND there are many exceptions to this, depending on your acting interp, but it can still be risky, especially for an inexperienced auditioner

tranposing a song when you're auditioning for the show from which you're singing - that one's common sense ;)

Changing the key slightly can often take the song away from your passagio, or break, just enough to make a significant difference in your overall sound, without compromising anything else about the song - and as a rule, transposing UP is nearly always accepted, because the perception is that the song is being made "harder" to sing.

Hope this helps!

P.S. DEFINITELY always thank your accompanist, like LuLu's Momma says!!! :)

We found a good source for transposing music if you have a song that is not on one of the sites where you can just do it online. It is not a cheap process, but is worth it if the song is then in a more comfortable key for an already stressful audition. Of course, follow Coach C's advice, for when and when not to transpose.....

We used Bob's Music Notation Service. His e-mail is bob@bobsmusicservice.com

The cost was 9.00 a page and the turn-around time was fast. We scanned the song, sent it as an attachment and he returned the song as an attached file by the next day.

There are other sites that do transposing as well. The cost comes out about the same - some charge more for the first page, then less for subsequent pages, some charge by the hour, etc.
