Shenandoah Acting?

I've been considering Shenandoah Conservatory for a while but I can never decide whether or not to keep it on my list. I live about 530 miles away so I'd probably have to do a video audition, unless I can convince my mom to make a third audition trip (doing Unifieds in Chicago and three regionals in New York); will a video audition hurt my chances? Can Acting majors audition for musicals? What method is taught there? Is there a senior showcase outside of Winchester? What is the overall vibe of the school? If anyone can answer ANY of these questions, that would be fantastic!

Thanks!

I know that the focus of the acting program is Meisner. I really liked the vibe of the school, I went for a Thespian conference and performed on their stage. They have pretty nice facilities. I don’t know the rest of the questions, sorry!

@sarahelicox if I remember right (it’s been a year and a half). They bring people in to see the kids who actually work with them and get a chance to know them. On the campus auditions they do spend time with you. You really get a feel for the program by the time you leave there. They want to develop you as an individual. They were by far the best faculty presentation of explains the program and answering questions. It was my D’s first audition and really set her at ease and set up the tone for her whole audition season

They’ve made some changes to their straight acting curriculum in the last couple of years, so that’s worth investigating. It’s known to be a very supportive and nurturing environment overall, with good access to the DC theater scene. @photomom5‌ has a daughter who’s a rising senior there–she could probably tell you much more!

The Acting program is growing in leaps and bounds!!! Definitely worth taking a looksie. Also, they will be at NYC unifieds for musical theatre auditions so keep checking the website to see if acting will be there also. My guess is yes because the acting faculty is in the MT auditions along with the MT faculty.

I am the mom of a rising senior and it is a very strong and viable program. You can audition for the musicals as well as their straight shows, they are very much Meisner oriented, that is actually a very important detail you should consider. We also live close to 600 miles away, my child flew or took the train before she had a car. As a parent, I love the school and would be glad to answer your questions or ask my daughter for the answers.
