Neither CVS nor Walgreens have a WL. I guess I could try Costco. Do you believe that the 2nd shot only adds 10% effectiveness?
Report back on my second shot. Feel like crap right now 24 hours later! Took one ibuprofen at bedtime, another one just now so I can leave the house.
Everyone is different. My H just had slight sore arm the second shot. He thinks he got immune from the first one!
I had my first dose three weeks ago. I had called my primary care physician’s office and they said to come in the next day! They have my second shot on reserve for me, they told me they don’t give the first shot unless they have the second on hand. No real side effects for me except a slightly sore arm. I’m in Northern Illinois.
I was talking to my pharmacist the other day about the vaccine and the side effects. He said almost every patient has had a sore arm, like they had been punched, with many having the fever and flu like symptoms. He said the CDC release a new bulletin about the side effects showing that more people have side effects like what has been share here. The CDC should have come to use, since CC users know everything!
The pharmacist also said he isn’t able to give out an ETA of supply arrival, as he is not being told when he might receive any. He had 50 to start and hasn’t seen any since.
After being on the WL at CVS for about 6 mo., my husband & I got the call that our vaccines were in. My arm felt very bruised for a week, and I had a red, raised area at least 3" in diameter. Otherwise, I felt fine. My husband’s arm felt sore for 3 days, but did not have a reaction at the site like I had. He felt worn down, like he was coming down with sickness, but it passed in a couple of days. We basically were able to keep to our usual schedules with the exception of me taking it easy with the use of my arm. Glad I used my non dominant arm.
Well, H and I got our shingles vaccinations this weekend. H had no problems whatsoever, but I had a really bad time of it – high fever, headache, chills, and muscle aches. It was weird because I usually don’t react to vaccines at all. (H said it’s because I got the “real” vaccine and he got the saline placebo.) Now, 48 hours later, I’m almost back to normal.
Not really complaining, though, since even my bad reaction is better than getting shingles!
They won’t give me the vaccine because I’m not yet 50, even though I’ve already had Shingles. I still have side effects from Shingles, but I’m lucky they aren’t painful, just annoying.
Wow, that’s amazing. You’re speaking of your insurance company, right? I would think you qualify as an exception to their age requirement rules. Can you appeal that decision?
No one around here even has a waitlist list. I check every Thursday…about 7 or 8 different places. They haven’t had the vaccine and also have no idea if or when they will see it.
This is beyond annoying…
The pharmacy where I received my shot only schedules people when they have 2 doses available, they hold the second for your return visit. I’m already scheduled to get my second shot in 3 months.
I experienced Shingles in my 40’s. It’s painful. Best to get the shots when available.
My doctors office called this morning as they finally got some more vaccine in. Scheduled shot for Thursday morning.
I had the original vaccine 2 years ago, so I wasn’t that worried about having to wait.
I paid for my own shingles shot when I was 50 and my insurer refused to reírse, even after I appealed. It was under $200 for my peace of mind. CDC later lowered the age to 50(from 60), but I didn’t want to risk it by waiting.
@poetsheart No. I was willing to pay out of pocket for it. It’s a CDC guideline, and CVS Pharmacy goes by those. CVS is the only place it was available.
Yes, I understand and believe CVS would follow CDC guidelines. Hope you can stay healthy and minimize stress until you turn 50 and are eligible to get new Shingrex shot (or any better vaccine).
Got my second dose today. Walgreens called and I was there within the hour.
Question for all you experts. I’m having my first dose tomorrow. If I have a reaction when will it start most likely? Right away? Next day?
Mine started ~6-12 hours after the vaccination. Both times I had the shot late in the day after work and by the next morning was feeling achy and feverish. I didn’t sleep well either night after the shot.
@maya54 for me, I didn’t feel the lethargy until 24 hrs after. No fever or achiness. And then I was fine the next day. I have a dull headache now but it could have other causes.
I just had my second shot Wednesday. With the first shot, only side effect was a sore, itchy arm for a few days. This time, 12 hours after shot I woke up in the middle of the night feeling achy (head, joints, overall) and with hyper-sensitive skin. That lasted about 24 hours. Now I just have the sore, lumpy arm.
