Shingles!

My arm is definitely more tender than with other injections and the first night I felt slightly feverish. Yesterday, I was a little tired, so I skipped my workout. Nothing too terrible, but I think the suggestion earlier in the thread to get the vaccine on a Friday is a good one.

Wah! I’m sick!!! I received my first Shingrix vacinne back in May. I have vague recollections of being ‘fluish’ for a day or two, and my arm hurt for weeks. Anyway, I got the second shot yesterday. This time, my arm is not as painful, BUT, I have full-blown 'flu symptoms! Achy all over, shivering, headache, sore throat and 101.9-104 fever!
Wah!

@momo2x2018, H also felt feverish and pretty lousy, especially after his 2nd shot but got over it after a day or two. He still said it was MUCH better than when he had shingles!

Hope you’re better soon!

I hope you feel better soon.

At least you have gotten the shots. That vaccine is still totally unavailable in my area…and they don’t know when they will ever see it.

@thumper1 I got mine at CVS walk-in; have you put your name on a waiting list?
When i was in CVS the other day, I specifically asked if it was still in short supply, and the pharmacist said they were definitely seeing less of a shortage than 6 months ago. It might be worth a call to several pharmacies?

Two weeks ago, my wife (who had taken her two shingles vaccinations) came down with…you guessed it - shingles! Her neck was increasingly sore so on the second day I took her to urgent care where she was diagnosed. Anti virals, steroids, and something for pain was prescribed and she rapidly recovered (mostly after first two days of taking her scripts). So, two days ago I took my first shot (I’ve actually had shingles before - about 4 years ago) . Felt terrible for one day but much better now.

For me the 2nd shot caused flu symptoms for a day or so, the first shot was just a sore arm.

Yikes! I did not need to read about these second shot side effects today. My second is scheduled for tomorrow.?. Luckily, we have no plans this weekend.

@Rivet2000 Did your wife have the new Shingrix vaccine or the old vaccine?

She had the new one. Just unlucky I guess.

How come this new vaccine is totally unavailable in my area of CT? They aren’t even keeping waiting lists anymore. Some places haven’t seen one dose in months. What’s up?

I love this thread. Today after catching up here I texted my H and said, “get your shot today or I am on a cooking strike”. He is a doc who works for a large HMO. Evidently, even as a doc, he did not have priority status. None the less they no longer have a huge shortage and he came home having his first shot. (threatening not to cook causes him to do many things) ( the last time I threatened him with calling his doc --if he did not by noon, I would–it was discovered he had kidney cancer.
He went to bed just now with mild flu symptoms. (He did get an amazing arugula steak salad for dinner). My motivation was thinking what a terrible patient he would be if he did get the shingles and what I would have to go through with him:)!

I got my first dose last week-end. Our CVS has had plenty in supply this summer. A month or so ago I was told they had 60 doses and expected them to last awhile. I wouldn’t say my symptoms were flu-like, I just felt like I had a low-grade fever (slightly chilled, skin sensitive to the touch.) I took it easy but didn’t have to spend the day in bed. Thanks for the heads up that it may be worse after 2nd dose!

Had the second dose yesterday morning and feel exactly as @Embracethemess described., low grade feverish. This seems very similar to when I had the first dose. The injection sight of these shingles vaccines is way more tender than any other vaccine I have experienced. Not at the time of injection but starting a few hours later.

Glad to have this over. I had a case of
facial shingles when I was 50 and do not want to go through that again! I’m so glad they have lowered the recommended age.

The good news is…24hrs after onset of symptoms, I was fine!
Oh, and the arm doesn’t hurt nearly as much as it did the first time.
Now, when the ‘pox’ strikes, I’m ready!!!

Ok…so I’m willing to drive. I live in NW CT where no one has this vaccine. Suggestions?

@thumper1 CVS Farmington Ave, Hartford has it (IDK if that is NW Conn)

H and I (63 and 60) are going to the pharmacy later to get the second dose of Shingrix. My arm was a little sore after the first shot for a couple of days, so I am going to take some Ibuprofen before we leave the house today. H had no side effects.

@momo2x2018 hmmm…I will contact the CVS stores closer to me. I mean really…there is one on every block. The one you posted is bout 45 minutes from my house…there are at least two dozen that are closer ?‍♀️

I checked with my CVS about 3 weeks ago. The supply they had in stock were earmarked for those needing the second shot, but they said they could order one for me. Within a week I got the call that it had arrived and they could hold it for me for up to 2 weeks. I went in for it that weekend and my symptoms were similar to @Embracethemess .
