Shingles!

Ours are covered by insurance but when we called CVS to schedule our second round, we were told to try in a month or so as they are not doing vaccinations right now. I guess I’ll call our doctor’s office to see if we can get them there.

I got my second vaccine a few weeks ago at my doctor’s office. They came out to the parking lot and gave the shot there.

I had to pick up meds at my Safeway pharmacy a couple of weeks ago. I got there when the pharmacy opened and was the only customer at the pharmacy. The store was relatively empty too, but that could be a function of this particular Safeway (it’s an older store). I wore a mask as were the store employees.

My husband and I decided to get our second dose today. I called my pharmacy this morning to make sure they had stock and were giving them regular hours. I also asked which pharmacist was there today, as we like one better than the other. My husband decided to wait until later today, so I wen ahead after I had some lab work done.

When I got there, the pharmacist ask it that was me that called earlier and where was my husband! I jokingly said my husband had chickened out  Here’s hoping I again have no reactions.

I had my second one a we k or so ago. Did it at the pharmacy/lab at the grocery store. We like the pharmacist there. Like last time I had some pain, redness and itching at the site. I also had a horrible headache (very rare for me). Headache was gone by the next day, but I’m glad I didn’t have to go to work.

Just got the second vaccine. Frankly, the wait in the doctor’s office was more surreal than anything else. 24 hours in, some low level fever and discomfort in the arm, but nothing like what my doctor warned me could happen. Beats having shingles hands down!

I had a headache this morning and also had one after the first injection, but wasn’t sure it was from the vaccine. So I go to get my nails done today and had to wait outside until my tech was ready for me. When I went inside, the owner takes my temperature and I though she said 107 :open_mouth: What she said was 100.7, and then she said I must have gotten hot while waiting outside. I though she was going to tell me I had to leave since I had a temp, but she let me stay as she really thought it was from the heat! I did tell her I had a vaccine yesterday, so that was why my temp might be a bit higher than normal.

I don’t feel like I have a fever, but the headache could go away anytime now!

I had my second shot this morning. Last time I felt just awful the next day - headache, aches, chills. The following day I was better but not anywhere close to normal. By the third day I was able to function. I purposely got the shot today because I have nothing too urgent to do the next few days. So far I feel okay and I hope it continues.

I feel much better today; didn’t realize how unwell I felt yesterday!

24 hours since I had the shot. I have some aches, chills, headache and fatigue, but not nearly as bad as what I had after the first shot. I’m just going to lie low today.

I got my second shot today and I’m relieved just to cross it off the list. The first shot didn’t give me much trouble except for a sore arm (sore enough so that I couldn’t sleep on that side.) I took some Aleve and now I’ll just hope for the best. But I am happy to risk fever, fatigue, etc,. for a few days to avoid shingles, which just sounds awful!

The first day after the second dose, my arm was still really sore, but no other problems. The second day I also had a headache all day despite taking Aleve.

I had the first shot a week ago. My arm was only slightly sore for a two days, but my neck was uncomfortably tight and very achy on that side for four days. I feel lucky to have no other reaction.

Just got my first shot yesterday morning, and threw caution to the wind and got a flu shot at the same time. Took a prophylactic dose of ibuprofen an hour beforehand.

I was apprehensive after reading comments here and because H was miserable and in bed for a day after both his shingles shots.

Got chills in the middle of the night that another dose of ibuprofen took care of. Arms were tender, but not so much that I couldn’t lay on my sides. Did the shingles shot in my dominant right arm, flu in the left … really no difference in sensitivity between the two. So far that’s it. Fingers crossed that there’s no delayed reaction.

Thanks for the reminder to get flu shot this week. Like I said back pages ago, the flu shot was basically nothing and the shingles shot as well
Please get all of these.

Get all your shots in your dominant arm.

@dragonmom I read that if you do flu and shingles at the same time to use both arms. When I get my second shingles shot I will use my dominant arm again.

DH and I got our first dose and our flu shots at the same time late last year, both in the non-dominate arm. Both of us were down with light fever, chills, general achiness, and arm soreness for the weekend. We got the second dose a month ago, again non-dominate arm, with same symptoms, but not as severe, though I also got a large red welt/bruise at the shot site that I did not get the first round. We got our flu shots two weeks ago with no reaction. It’s good to be caught up, at least for a while, and agree with everyone that any discomfort with the vaccine is worth avoiding shingles.

I normally get my shot in the non-dominant arm but recently, I’ve been letting the person administering the shot just use the most convenient arm (which tends to be my dominant arm). I’ve been fine other than minimal pain at the site for 24-48 hours after the shot—whatever shot it is.

Why the dominant arm?
