Shingles!

@bookworm – You need the second shot even if you had the other shot a few years ago.

“Insurance will pay for Shingrix for people who are 50 or older.” - That was true for me, but when I called the insurance company to check they said I should get it at pharmacy (for me that means our CVS at Target).

At a physical a few weeks ago my physician suggested I get it (age 58; I had assumed it was still an over-60 cutoff but now over-50). I wanted to do some research first, and I read the first 12 pages of posts here and decided to go for it. It’s actually good I procrastinated because the pharmacist said they want 2 week wait after getting flu shot (which I did say Yes to at appt).

I will say my arm hurt more than any previous shot. That may be partly due because the first attempt had start but broken needle. The 2nd attempt was almost painless. The arm soreness came later.

One of the reasons I wanted to get this done so that I can get the second shot (2 to 6 months from now) before ramp-up of covid vaccine.

Good for you!

I had my first Shingrix shot this summer. Other than a sorer-than-normal arm and a slight flu-like feeling the following day, it was fine. I got the second shot at the very end of September, along with the flu shot at the same time. I was told I had to wait one month (30 days) between shots. The second shot gave me a sore arm again, and this time I slept a lot the second day. (My flu shot arm wasn’t very sore, but the fatigue could have been from that, although I don’t usually feel that way after a flu shot). And earlier this week I had my tdaP shot. So until the covid-19 vaccine, I’m done for now.

H had his first Shingrix shot this week. His sore arm feeling was gone for the most part by the second day, and he didn’t have any other effects.

Shingrix and flu shot can be given at same time.

I got both Shingrix and flu shots at the same last year. One in each arm. It was fine.

A few friends also have told me they got Shingrex and flu shot same too. Not sure why my CVS pharmacist wanted 2 weeks between. (Luckily I was able to confirm tha the “last tues” flu shot was actually prior week - on election day… and the dragged out election results just made it seem more recent.)

A post was split to a new thread: Shingrex Will be Free for 2023 with Medicare Part D
