Shipping Dorm Items to New Jersey

Can anyone comment and give advice on companies and costs of shipping dorm items back home? We'd like to fly our child home, but there is too much to pack for the flight home. There will probably be 3 large Sterlite-type bins to ship. Most of what is being shipped home will NOT return back to school next year, so storing over the summer is not in the plan. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had to ship 4 big boxes from Chicago to Virginia, much bigger than Sterlite bins, used DHL, was stunned that it came to just under $100.

We used Fed EX Ground after D’s freshman year when we were doing the same thing. There’s a FedEx location very close to the campus…right behind one of the private bookstores.

We have used FedEx Ground for all shipping to both kids while at school and they are cheaper than UPS and its two days from Dallas to Columbia ie ship on Monday and she has it Wednesday though it took a day longer to Chapel Hill.

Fed Ex/Kinkos store is open 24 hours and is located on Greene Street between Assembly and Main streets next to the SC bookstore and across the street from the USC Law school

Thanks for all of the info!

Our child checked out the Kinko’s at the edge of the campus, but found their choice of boxes was small and their prices to ship were very high. Does anyone have experience with another shipping company near campus? Thanks.

Buy boxes elsewhere…most moving and storage place like U Haul and Public Storage have far better prices. Have them check with the Public Storage at Rosewood and Assembly (near the football stadium) then use FedEx Ground to ship…FedEX Ground is by far the least expensive way to ship and still have tracking information on the boxes.

We shipped 5 large and heavy boxes to Texas and it really wasn’t that expensive for all of them; certainly under $200 for all the boxes and some were pretty heavy.
