Hey everybody!

Just got waitlisted by CWRU - apparently they "Have to guarantee" housing for all first years and so had to waitlist a lot of applicants.

Not convinced - I did a bit of searching on the "tufts syndrome" and "not showing interest = waitlist/rejection" part and have a few questions that I hope you guys can clear!!

Firstly, I noticed a few other universities that I applied to - which look for applicants to show interest. Is it too late now(decisions scheduled on 22nd-28th) to write a mail to the regional admissions officer and show interest?? Would they react negatively??
I've shown a bit of interest already(sent in updates & queries to few), so should I be following up with some more stuff??

Secondly, do people admitted off the wait listed get scholarships/FA??

Needless to say, I've gone into a panic emergency mode(may be overreacting) but as an International applicant who applied for FA - I don't want to be sitting idle, if there is something that I can do to help it!!

Thank you all in advance for your replies!!

Messages of interest are not of use at this time, just hold tight for the next month.

By definition merit goes to the top of the accepted student pool, so it is highly unlikely that someone accepted off the WL would receive merit. Need based FA will depend on the amount of resources of the school and whether or not they have enough remaining to give you full package at the time you are admitted.

@entomom - thanks for the quick reply.

So I guess I’ll just be waiting for the decisions then. If I get waitlisted, and chose to accept - I’ll send in updates/messages!!

As far as scholarship is concerned - looking at those accepted with scholarships (on the Class of 2017 CWRU decisions), I’d think that had I been accepted - I should get/should’ve gotten a similar/better scholarship too.
So if I do choose to accept the waitlist offer and then do get admitted - would the scholarship decisions be based on the same criteria??

About merit aid, I wasn’t thinking of guaranteed scholarships and am unfamiliar with CWU scholarships. I was talking about competitive merit scholarships which typically go to the top 5-10% of the class. I don’t know how guaranteed scholarships would work for WLed applicants who are accepted, best to call CWU and ask them.

Its the weekend, so I guess I’ll be writing them an e-mail on Monday.

Thanks again. At least it cooled me down. :)
