short answer

So for the Ambassadors question, we just name an object that we think would symbolize us?? And does it have to be a fictional character from 'classical literature' for the other short answer question?

or can it be from a film?

i haven't read the question but you probably don't want to use a character from "Pirates of the Caribbean" unless you can use it to write a damn good essay

this might sound superficial but if there's one thing i've learned it's don't "go out on a limb" with your college essay

For the Ambassadors question, you want to try and pick an object or two that is important to you; something that symbolizes a part of your life. That's pretty hard to explain in 50 words or less, I know, but I suppose they want to see if you have the ability to be concise in your writing.

And yes, I would definitely stick to characters in literature for the roommate question.

okk thankss =) i was going to attempt to choose like a random, slightly strange character but i think i'll go with my first instinct and choose a classic character haha

" was going to attempt to choose like a random, slightly strange character but i think i'll go with my first instinct and choose a classic character "

That's what I originally tried to do and realized that I wasn't really being myself. I decided to go with my gut instinct and just be me. Hopefully it worked!

i kind of want to choose tracy from manhattan, but i kind of had the feeling i should stick to books.

i would think any fictional character is just fine, doesn't have to be from literature.

^^^ but again, my warning would be, don't pick Tyler Durden from fight club unless you can write a really good essay about him.

I've applied to alot of schools, i can say almost with 100% accuracy that every app that i experimented with a "unique" essay was met with rejection from the school, even schools who seem like they want that type of essay, whereas when i wrote what i thought were really boring, generic essays i was accepted; this is after accounting for all variables of selectivity, etc.

I know people who have had different results but they were unbelievably stellar students who i'm sure had amazing, amazing essays.

So the point is, unless you're certain you can write one of the single best essays the admissions committee is going to read that year, don't go out on a limb with your topic and structure
