My rising Sr has a first time issue with moving. She stayed in Pittsburgh for a summer internship and has acquired some used furniture for the first time (bed, desk, dresser) which she is using in a summer sub-lease. In the Fall she is renting an apartment with roommates. She will need to move out of her sub-let and store her things for a few days before she can move into her Fall apartment. Does anyone have experience or recommendations for storage for a few days? Moving help? Ideas on how to best handle it? Worst case she’ll give the furniture away and then buy some inexpensive items with delivery service to get her through her Senior year. She isn’t planning to stay in Pittsburgh after graduation (although she has enjoyed her time there!) Any ideas or recommendations on how we might handle this would be much appreciated.
My daughter also has a 5 day gap
this summer and is going to ask the new landlord if they have any leeway with moving in early. Aside from that, she will be trying to ask friends to allow her to store things. If that fails, she will rent a storage unit though I bet it will be for a full month. There are a couple of storage places near campus - my kids have used U-haul moving and storage at the top of Bigelow Blvd - can rent trucks from them also. Others have used Guardian Storage and been happy. Rates are pretty reasonable. As far as moving help - look into a company called Bellhops which actually hires Pitt kids to help move people - they don’t have trucks but they can help pack and move. My son worked for them over the summer one year - they hire lots of Pitt kids.
