Yeah Campus 2 Campus costs a lot more than Shortline

campus to campus is 150 round trip… about an hour faster (no stops), has wifi and nice seats, coffee machine. not sure if that is worth the additional $60 cost but is really nice.

If I had to get from Penn Station to Shortline Bus at Port Authority, would you recommend the subway or is the distance walkable?

It’s only 8 blocks, definitely walkable. If you have a lot of stuff, just grab a cab.

yeah i’ve walked it a couple of times - i’d really recommend not doing THAT late at night though :)

So I’m flying in to JFK, taking the Queens line bus, then the subway, then Shortline to Cornell. If I have three pieces of luggage, will there be enough room/is it okay to have that much luggage? how do people usually get their stuff to campus if they’re traveling far?

I don’t know if this’ll work for you if you’re traveling alone, but I’m going with my family and we’re going to fly into Syracuse then rent a car to drive to Cornell.

shortline has been relatively safe in my experience and i’ve taken it at 4am (although with a friend). i know a lot of people who have done this without a problem—a lot of times its a good option for breaks since its probably less crowded, and usually i just get my stuff packed, and go out with friends til like 3am, and then I’m exhausted and can just sleep on the bus! it is a really long bus ride (compared to the 3.5 hr car ride) and not very comfortable, but good for the money

campus to campus is a pretty good option too if you could get seats, sooooo much faster and the wifi is great. I’ve taken it a couple of times–once when I was sick (recovering from the flu) and wanted something more comfortable, and once because i needed to get back quickly.

another option thats kind of sketchy but really cheap is to find a ride through craiglist or a like a carpooling website. i have a friend that did that once and it seemed sketch but it ended up fine!

luckily i happen to be from an area where a lot of people go to cornell so i can usually get a ride home

I don’t recommend using the subways with that much luggage. Apparently, there are buses that run from the airport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

If there’s 2 people, it might not be any extra for the second person if you take the car service, so that could make it more competitive with the busses.

My kids took the shortline often and they never claimed that it was unsafe. I can’t believe someone suggested a $400.00 cab ride. I would laugh if any of my kids ever suggested such a thing.

To go from NYC to Cornell, I’m booking the Shortline bus online.
It says we need to exchange printed ticket for a real ticket from an agent. Is there an agent at Port Authority Bus Terminal?

The online booking only shows the date, not time of day for the ride. Does that mean we can take any bus ride at any time during the day?

Should I book in advance online or just buy ticket at Port Authority Bus Terminal on the day of departure? Will tickets run out?
