Yes or no?

My guidance counselor said they should be.

This. Is. Not. Important.

If it's short, maybe. But, probably just stick to single spacing it.

I would say...it depends. For example, I wrote an essay that ended up being .75 pages single-spaced, so I made it like 1.4 spacing, which, in addition to keeping it all on one page, made it look MUCH better.

But if you were to have a full page single-spaced, and you are debating whether to make it two pages and look better or one page and look scrunched, I would probably say to double space it. However, if the report is more than a page, I would just keep it single-spaced, so as to not bombard admission counselors with what seems like a huge essay.

But these are just personal preferences; you should do whatever seems good, but I definitely don't think admission counselors want to squint when reading essays.
