Should colleges charge for credit, when internships are unpaid?

Here's an article in today's NYTimes that touches upon this topic. Should colleges charge for the internship as credit hours when they don't do anything? Conversely, aren't "we" shooting ourselves in the foot by accepting this practice? Should companies even offer unpaid internships?

I know getting an internship is wonderful, builds your skills, and pads your resume, but should both colleges and companies take advantage of the student for this "priviledge"?
