<p>I'm currently trying to write my common app short answer and full essay. However, I don't know whether it looks better if the topics in the two writing samples are "linked" in some way. Currently, I'm considering talking about a math EC in my short answer (how it challenged me beyond anything I'd done before), and my Model UN EC in my long essay (choosing topic of your choice since I haven't had a particularly interesting life, and discussing how it gave me confidence/leadership/maturity). </p>
<p>However, I recognize that the two ECs are pretty disparate. I believe that, to some degree, the fact that I'm really well-rounded is probably an asset, but I wonder if college adcoms will feel the same way. Would it be better to have a more specific "focus" apparent through both writing samples, or is my current setup ok?</p>
