i have my award account from the school, the awards for FA are done on the school site. can i accept the work study program, i already have pell grant 2,822.00 $, and SF state UNiv grant 2,736.00 $, which amounts to 5700 dollars. and fed work study which is 2k per semester,?
If i accept this would i have to put it on my taxes? i havnt filed any taxes before.

Yes, you should accept the work study. It will not be enough money where you will have to file income taxes.

Yes. You should accept this. It provides you with the federal work study funds to be employed in a work study job on your campus. $4000 is below the threshold for taxes. And even IF you work in the summers and on vacations and earn in excess of the tax filing amount…so what? Your tax rate will be VERY low, and you will have some added income. If you are Pell eligible, that extra income should be welcome and helpful to you.

Plus, job experience is a good thing.

ETA…you would likely be able to file for free a 1040EZ tax form…which is VERY EZ to do!

Accept it but you still need to work to earn the money.

Accept it. You can always decide to work less hours or no hours if you have problems balancing you work load. The award just means that you can apply for a work study job and earn up to your award level. You will still need to apply and get hired. Also the income from work study is not counted for FA purposes next year.

Grant student…you are 26 years old, right? That being the case, working and filing taxes needs to be part of your repertoire at some point.

YES…accept work-study AND apply for and get a work study job.

Accept it. My son ended up only working 4 hours his freshman year, but it helped. Many of the jobs on his camput gave preference to students with federal work study.
