Should I appeal for Financial Aid? Please help!

Hi! I was wondering if someone could tell me how to appeal for more money. I've been accepted to NYU Stern, but the price tag that comes with it is a bit too much for my family. The only other school I'm considering is my state school, which is giving me the same amount in scholarship, but the overall total price is much less, being a state school. The other schools I've been accepted to aren't giving me more than NYU, and was wondering if my situation would allow for an appeal, and if so, how would I go about doing that? Additionally, my dad is losing his job in 3 months, so do I have to wait till then to tell them about a change in the financial situation? Thanks so much! (I also posted this in the NYU Forum)

Important: What was your FAFSA EFC? Are you appealing on the basis that 1) Your family can’t afford to pay the FAFSA EFC or 2) NYU did not provide enough aid to meet the gap between your EFC and the Cost of Attendance?

If the situation is #2 then you have a much stronger case.

Your other schools did not give you more need-based financial aid, so that’s one less argument you can put to NYU. However, your situation with your dad’s job loss is absolutely a reason to appeal. YES, appeal the financial aid. It can’t hurt. TELL THEM RIGHT AWAY ABOUT YOUR FATHER’S IMPENDING JOB LOSS!
