I have a 3.8140 unweighted gpa, 4.2791 weighted gpa, 1180 on the SAT, participate in marching band, varsity scholastic bowl, varsity tennis, mathletes, 100 hours of community service with my local church, am rank 16 out of 449 students at my highschool, I took 10 AP classes and others being honors courses. I want to major in neuroscience because I want to be a psychiatrist however maybe applying as a biology major will be less competitive.
Do you attend a public school? If so, you qualify for automatic admission thus your chances of being admitted to neuroscience are higher than you may anticipate. Either way, selecting biology because it’s “less competitive” is not a smart move, because neuroscience is actually quite difficult to transfer into once you’re a student at UT, and you should select what you are most passionate about as your first choice major. Select neuroscience as a first choice and biology as a second. Try to up that SAT to the upper 1300 range, and maybe try taking the ACT. Best of luck!
