Hello all, I don't know how many of these forums I've read and now I'm actually writing one. Anyways... I'm applying to architecture school for Fall 2010 and was wondering if I should apply to Cornell. I've been planning on applying there for quite some time but my parents just told me that they didn't think I should apply because 1. I probably wouldn't get in, and 2. They couldn't afford to pay for it.

My GPA is 3.5
SAT CR - 580, Math - 760, Writing - 630
Haven't taken SAT II yet
Pretty involved in school activities/volunteering
Also, I have a very strong portfolio and am taking AP Studio Art

So... my question is, should I spend $70 to apply? and if I get in, is it worth the huge tuition $$ when I could go to another school for much cheaper?

I would apply if I were you, Cornell has a very strong architcture program and I also heard that the portfolio and the required interview can carry a lot of weight in the admissions process.

As for money, I’m not to sure, hopefully you would recieve good FA, but if not I would be looking at scholarships.

Your parents have been honest with you. Cornell will surely have another competitive admissions cycle. Tuition could be an issue. You should apply with the understanding that if financial need is sufficient and you receive an offer of admission, you could attend your dream school. It’s very important that you include other schools that would be more affordable also. One option would be to attend your best state school, excel in the program, and then earn your M.Arch at a top grad school.
