i want to apply to either williams or amherst ED, as well as EA at some safeties. i visited both schools and i definitely preferred williams, however my opinion is skewed because i visited amherst on a sunday and it was pretty much dead.
i will probably major in a science so that is an important factor- good science program and research availability
on the off chance that i actually get accepted at one of these incredible schools, i want to be sure i made the right decision. right now im leaning towards williams, but i want to hear your side of the story first.

academically, amherst and williams are pretty much the same. the main difference is the setting of the schools. williams is definitely more rural, and people like it because it has a more “cozy” and “private” feeling. amherst is a quintessential college town.
since williams obviously had a stronger first impression on you, i think that you should apply to williams ED. ALWAYS TRUST YOUR GUT!

Check the rules on ED for Williams. Generally, you can’t apply EA anywhere else when you apply ED. Having said that, they are both wonderful choices and my son agonized over the decision before choosing Amherst. The college town atmosphere of Amherst was a factor in his decision, as was access to Boston. He applied RD and was admitted to both schools and a few other peer institutions which allowed for some negotiation of the financial aid package – something to keep in mind if financial aid is important.

Is it true that you will get less financial aid if you apply ED? I am not sure if my S should apply ED to any school.

@hzhao once you get into a school ED, you have to go UNLESS you cant afford it. now that theyve accepted you, the school doesnt want to lose you. so i doubt that you would get less aid if you apply ED
@icwest0213 thanks for the advice. i do have a gut feeling that i would like williams better. but i think im gonna do an overnight in the fall to get a better idea
@violao congrats to your son. thats a really tough decision, but i dont think you could go wrong either way

and @violao i just checked the site for williams. if im accepted ED i have to rescind all other applications. so i guess i can apply to others and if i get in i just take them back

If you apply ED and are accepted, you won’t be able to negotiate by showing competing offers from peer institutions who offer need based aid. If you don’t qualify for need based aid, this is not relevant.

Definitely do overnights, but I will warn you that you may fall in love twice.

yea i guess. im not an expert so your probably right

How much does it help??

ANyone???
