Should I apply EDII?

Hey, guys. So pretty much my story is that I want to go to NYU... it is easily my top choice. However, I am not going to shell out more than 40K a year on a college, because simply, NYU nor any college is worth that type of money. So, here are my basic stats

ACT: 35
GPA: 4.0 We do not do weighted but my class rank is top 1% (on my transcript that I sent, I was 1/ around 700) out of maybe 700
SAT II Scores: 800 on Math II and 800 on Bio M

ECs: I have all the generic ECs like volunteering at a hospital for 400 hours, but I have job shadowed physicians for a good 70+ hours and am also conducting research.

Clubs: President of Class, leader of my chess club, leader of my math team, and captain of academic team, just yada yada

Awards: AP Scholar With Distinction, state awards from competitions, no crazy national award, and a lot of school awards

I am applying to CAS. So the question is, will NYU even give me any type of scholarship if my EFC is around 40K, and if I apply ED II can I back out if the FA is not where I want it to be?

I know this post is just a jumbled mess, but here's the main question I am trying to get at: Should I apply EDII with an EFC of 40K with my stats and expect a scholarship. And if I do not get a scholarship, can I still back out

Yes you can back out if you’re not happy with your financial aid. You’re stats are great and a scholarship is probably eminent, but NYU is super stingy with aid so maybe you wont get enough to bring it down to 40k…i dont know tho
Give ED2 a shot :)

@ImNYUobsessed Thanks for the input :smiley: Great to know that I can back out if I am not happy with the financial aid.

Yeah you can back out if you are not happy with the financial aid;
But with your stats, I think you should apply to Ivy League schools.
Why don’t you apply with RD, compare the financial aids with other schools and make a decision?

If you really really like NYU and even Ivy League doesn’t interest you, the story is kind of different but

@confcoll I’m pretty dead set on NYU if they give me good aid. I’ve never really found much interest in ivies :/

@aNerdyGangster‌ Then go for it!

I was just trying to say, who never knows
If you want to also apply Ivy for RD, they might give you a better aid
which is not the case here.
