I am not sure whether or not I should apply to NU. I have a 3.99 UW GPA, top 6% of my class, and 31 ACT. I need school to be cheap for me though. I would only attend Northwestern if almost all of the tuition was covered through grants and scholarships. My EFC will be zero. So, first, do you think I have a good chance of being admitted? Also, how much money will I have to take in loans each year? Please help! thanks!

By the way, I am a senior attending a small high school in Illinois

Bump…anyone?

Can you provide more information such EC’s, awards, any hooks and assumptions about recommendations? This is not enough info. for people to chance you with.

If you EFC is truly zero, NU would make sure you receive all of the scholarships/grants/loans/jobs you need to cover everything. They say they meet 100% of financial need.

But do you think most of the aid would be in the form of loans?? I don’t want to have any more than 6 or 7k in loans each year

It is my understanding that the maximum amount of loans NU allows a STUDENT to take is $20k total over all 4 UG years. You could check this with financial aid, but I would CERTAINLY apply as I hear they are very generous with folks with a low EFC, and if you apply RD you would not need to accept any offer that didn’t suit you.

I also heard about that 20k cap on debt.
