I'm currently attending my second year of community college. I'm taking 4 classes right now in the fall. Excluding the fall I need 5 more classes to complete the IGETC (basically general ed classes).
I'm planning to take these last five classes this coming winter 2014 and spring 2015.

But my question is should I apply to transfer this year for the Fall 2015? Or does the fact that I don't have it all done, look bad? Will my chances of being accepted drop because I have lots of classes not done? Or am I fine to apply already? I am planning to apply to Uc's

Will you have 60 credits completed by Fall? If yes, you can try applying. Or you could apply to your favorite schools, and if it doesn’t work out wait and reapply next year (to favorites again, and also second choices/safeties).

Also, if you don’t apply, what will you do in the next year? I assume you’re taking classes during Spring, which’ll count towards requirements. Do you have enough pre-reqs (from assist.org) and GE requirements left to justify another year of CC? And you may want to look into a partial IGETC certification, if you can’t get all the classes you need to fit in Spring.

As for if it’ll hurt your chances… well, the more pre-reqs you’ve got, the stronger your application is. So, yes, but it’s possible to get in if you’re missing a few classes.

Hello! Thank you for replying! I am doing winter and spring classes. I will be done with all my classes by spring of 2015!

I am a communications major and my major has pre-req’s, however the two CC’s I go to, don’t have those classes. I went on assist.org and it said that the classes “are not articulated”, so I would have to take them at the UC I would attend. How would that affect me as well?

And if I didn’t apply this year, I wouldn’t go to CC next year because I wouldn’t need to take any more classes.

Definitely apply this year, based on the original post it seemed like you wouldn’t be able to finish something.

I don’t think having classes in Winter/Spring will hurt you, especially not if most are IGETC. For the non-articulated classes, so long as their not listed as required and your school does offer them, they shouldn’t hold it against you too much.

Apply this year worst case, apply again next year. Last year I applied with 52 units completes and still needed to do a non transferable math in winter and stats in spring in order to complete IGETC. I applied for the hell of it even thought people said taking stats during spring was risky especially for ucsb. I ended up getting accepted even at ucsb. Just apply and if for whatever reason you don’t get it apply next year. Trust me it’s worth it.

What I’m thinking is that even if you can’t find classes that will be accepted for transfer credit, you could find similar classes to show the adcoms that you have interest/ability in the area and that you’re doing your best to prepare to xfer. It couldn’t hurt to go talk to a xfer counselor at your school or meet with the UC reps when they visit and see if they think this will be of any help in being a stronger candidate.
