Should I ask Collegeboard send AP scores to URoch?

Should I ask Collegeboard send AP scores to URoch?

I checked MyRoch, It shows" 2AP/IB recommended", Should I ask Collegeboard send AP scores at this time, or just self report on Common Appl?

That was my exact question. Collegeboard doesn’t seem to have a place for people wanting to submit AP scores… I couldn’t find it.

According to Mike Conklin (who was a URoch admissions counselor who posted frequently to this board):

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-rochester/1044260-ap-scores-under-application-status.html?highlight=ap+scores</a></p>

Thanks WayOutWestMom, I’ve called CB to send my AP scores.

How about “family recommendation” and " writing samples" ? no clues. Are these optional?

Sillylilybajilly, go to CB website, there is a phone# to call, $15 per school.

Do you have to send more than 2 AP scores, meaning can you just send 2 scores that are the highest?

The Family recommendation, was just emailed to my son as a letter suggesting he ask a family, friend or community member send in a recommendation. His application is in so they must send it to students later.

My daugter applied to U Roch, and they congratulated her on her scores, without us sending them.

Family recommendation and writing sample truly are optional.

When D2 was applying to UR 4 years ago UR didn’t even ask for either of these items!

A family recommendation is a letter addressing anything a family member or family friend wants to say about you. More of character reference than anything else. I think you can find a form for this on the admissions site.

Writing sample is a graded paper you’ve had returned to you.

For those of you interested in sending the University of Rochester a Family Recommendation, please read below…

Dear xxxxx,

Thank you for your recent application to the University of Rochester!

We’d like to get to know you, not only as a Rochester applicant, but also as a member of your family and your community. This holistic approach gives us a more complete sense of who you are, beyond your application materials and test scores. A great way to do that is to ask a family member, a friend, or a member of your community to write a recommendation for you.

If you’re interested, you can download a copy of our optional Family/Community Recommendation Form at http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/res/pdf/familyrec.pdf</a>. Please complete the top portion of the form, then share it with the recommender of your choice.

To ensure that your recommendation is reviewed, please submit it to the Office of Admissions as soon as possible.

I wish you the best of luck throughout your college search!

Mike Conklin’s resurrected comments still hold true! (Thanks WOWM!)

The University of Rochester will not consider self-reported AP/SAT/ACT/IB/SAT II scores as “official”. Feel free to fill them in on the Common Application, but you will also need to make sure that your official scores are either located on your official high school transcript (submitted by your Guidance Counselor) or sent to us via the College Board!

For any parent, the family rec is fun to do and it gives you - or someone - an opportunity to think about the kid in a very specific way, one that lets you see the kid in a clear light and which helps you summarize a lot of experience in one short burst. I recommend doing the recommendation.

Tyler, I am a bit confused because I called Univ of Roch today to find out about whether AP test scores need to be sent. They said as you did that they are often on the school transcript (ours are not) but since they are optional/recommended not to worry about sending them. She even put me on hold to check with someone else.

Since typically, the only school you sent AP scores to is the one you are admitted in order to test out of a class or test into a higher class sending them before hand it seems a little ahead of things.

Clearly, if a student has taken several AP classes, it is pretty likely they have taken a couple of AP exams.

Lakemom,

If your son would like us to consider his official AP scores during his application review, then the scores should be sent to us. These AP/IB/SAT II scores are not required, so only send them if you want to. This is your decision!

Tyler

Thanks Tyler for following up.

@Lergnom
We all know AOs are extremely busy with thousands of applications. With additional of thousands of “family recommendation" and " writing samples", that will double or triple their work loads. If I were an AO, I’d like the students who make my life easier…lol
