Hi all,
Service is an extremely important part of my life–I volunteer every Sunday for a couple hours at an equine therapy barn for kids w/ developmental/intellectual disabilities. I also just got a job at a summer camp for disabled kids. These experiences have motivated me to become a physician that specializes in the care of children w/ developmental/intellectual disabilities. For my common app essay, should I not mention these experiences? B/c I heard that admissions ppl are tired of/hate these essays…Could I do it if I rework it and make it sound interesting?
Thanks!!
Write something that you think shows who you are. Don’t worry about what admissions officers want to see (or what you think they want to see).
Agree with mohammadmohd18. “First I did this, then I did that” essays are boring, and essays where someone wants to sound committed to service but lacks passion may sound fake. But taking a specific experience you had and using it to reveal who you are could make a great essay. Write from the heart.
