Should I Be Concerned?

Hi everyone! So, I really want to got to Yale (who doesn't?) even though I've been told that the undergrad college that one goes to does not affect his or her chances of getting into medical school. Unfortunately, I've made a few mistakes; I'm currently a sophomore, and I received a B this semester in AP Chemistry, and a B in both semesters of AP Biology (which I took in my freshman year). I have A's in pretty much every other class. I just have a few questions (and thank you for reading this far, by the way!).

Does the fact that my grades were lowest in my science classes mean that I shouldn't pursue science if I apply here? I love History and English, which I get A's in, but I am best in math (which I hate). I love Biology and Chemistry the most, but these were the only classes I have received B's in so far.

I am participating (and have participated) in many STEM competitions and clubs, and I am working extremely hard to get an A in all my classes this year. But should this make me worried? I've also just started to look into research internships and volunteering opportunities. I just feel like my situation is really weird...

I would also like to add that I have 4 or 5 other schools of relatively lower caliber in mind. It’s just that my interest in a variety of subjects really drew me to the wealth of resources that Yale provides in each field.

I don’t like to be “that” student that worries about every score and number, but I really want to improve. :)

You are best in math but hate it – my son didn’t enjoy math until something snapped in him (in sophomore year as I recall), and it is now a love of his. Feelings can change, but having an aptitude for math is a wonderful thing.

Ditto the sciences; he’s okay in chemistry, but rocks physics.

Finally, my son did not have straight As and was accepted. Sometimes I think getting As in everything means that for some reason or another, you’re not sufficiently challenged (possibly through a limitation of the school).

^ Thank you for giving me confidence! I used to really enjoy math in middle school, but I underestimated high school work, and my self esteem dropped greatly (esp. in math).

Even though I need to catch up, hopefully it will “snap” in me to :)
