I haven't had the best start in college. Although my gpa has been trending upward, it's still not that great. It has gone from a 2.4 to 3.0 to 3.1, which is nothing near the 3.5-3.7 average I should be aiming towards. I just want to know how slim my chances are for getting accepted to medical school.

For some further information, I am currently volunteering at a health clinic and also have a part time job. I have a merit scholarship for my current college. Also, there is a good chance I can get a research opportunity for this upcoming summer.

Please apply. I’m over 33 and I have at least 3 friends who applied and got in after they clocked 30. Don’t wait. Do it now. Don’t listen to the negative talk. Just do it. I regret not doing it when I was pre-med…I took the working route because I had no family support (both parents deceased by senior year)…and this made me feel like I had to earn a living or starve. But the guidance I needed was simply how to navigate the system, budget wisely and live on a tight budget for 4-6 yrs after college - so a counselor and more confidence and patience. I have that now that I’m older with life experience. It is really all just a game - this life - and only the people who are patient enough to delay gratification win…and the few lucky silver-spooners. Just do it. 2 friends graduated as docs after 36, one at 42. Another actually was a practicing dentist, left that and then went to med school. And over that time, he got married and had 4 beautiful girls. Anything in this life is possible. You just have to try. And if you fail, the knowledge is not wasted. There are so many gratifying terminal health professions you can pursue to help heal the sick. Hope this helps.

You want to be a doctor. So, keep that in mind. Don’t focus just on the result which is being a doctor. Focus on the path that will lead you to the destiny. Find out ways to do better and you will be able to achieve almost anything.
Good luck.
