Time to be realistic?

I haven't had the best start in college. Although my gpa has been trending upward, it's still not that great. It has gone from a 2.4 to 3.0 to 3.1, which is nothing near the 3.5-3.7 average I should be aiming towards. I just want to know how slim my chances are for getting accepted to medical school.

For some further information, I am currently volunteering at a health clinic and also have a part time job. I have a merit scholarship for my current college. Also, there is a good chance I can get a research opportunity for this upcoming summer.

Any thoughts?

How many more semesters do you have? A continued positive trend up to a 3.3 would still leave DO schools open to you.

Continue your upward trend and maybe do a post-bacc. If you can fall along the lines of a 3.3-3.4 you may have a shot at some MD schools especially if you can kill the MCAT. Get as many extracurriculars as possible and try to land some research. Apply to some DO schools for safety and you still have thriving chance.
