so i recently got a job... but i also already filled up all 12 spaces on the EC section of the common app.

should i replace one of the less important ECs with the job or keep the other activity that i've been involved with longer?

i'm not sure how important jobs are to colleges... help?

I’ve heard that jobs are considered less than other extracurricular activities. If you just got it and you have “less important” activities that you’ve been involved in longer, then just keep the activities. If you really think it’s necessary to include it, then put it in the additional info section?

I think jobs are very important if they account for a noticable (albeit not necessarily large) size of the family income or if it relates to your major. If you’ve had it for a significant amount of time say, 2 years, then I think it’s important enough to put on there if you can wriggle out an EC that isn’t as important. However, in your case the job is new and doesn’t carry with it much significance as far as adcoms are concerned. I wouldn’t replace an EC with it if said EC is somewhat important to you.

So, I work at a company called Medical Business Solutions. (As an office assistant, but still… it’s a job.) I’ve had the job since July of 2010, and I plan on keeping it until I graduate. Would that be considered a good EC to include?

I’ve heard that colleges like to know that someone has held a job, even a minimum wage one. It shows responsibility and good stuff like that.
