Right now I have a 83+ but I heard 89s are so helpful for calc.

Any suggestions?

It depends; there's the risk you'll use it as a crutch (like any calculator but much more so with this one) and never really work out difficult integrals and the like. It also depends on if your instructor forces you to simplify and show the work.

YES

it is super easy to use. the learning curve is a little harsh, but yeah it does a bunch of stuff quite easily.

Before you go out and buy it, check with your teacher. My teacher would not allow 89's in class until the last six weeks of school, when the whole class was lent 89's that we could learn to use and use on the AP test. The 89 does an amazing amount of stuff for calculus, but it's useless if your teacher won't let you use it.

Yeah, but you can still get a 5 without it.
If you konw your stuff, you can do it without the technology of the 89, I'm sure.

Like i have an 83, but I'm not buying a new one :)
I would like to, but have no money

ABSOLUTELY!!

If youre on cc I highly doubt you'll ignore learning things by hand simply because your calculator does it. Calculus is annoying to do on the Calculator portion of the AP test without an 89. In fact it'd be a crutch not to get one. the 83 does a lot, but nothing compared to the 89. Plus if you go on to college you'll most likely need an 89 anyway, so why not buy now and get more out of it?

Even if not for exams, it's good to check homework with.

Hmm..

Is Ap Calc BC still do-able with an 83?
I have no money to buy an 89-_-;

ok thanks for the comments guys. My teacher allows 89s so now I'll try to convince my fada to shell out the greens.

if ur short on money, u can always try buying used like on ebay or sumthing. =D
ti89 is definitely powerful.

I use an 83+ and I got a 5 on the Calc exam.

you really don't need the 89, but some people like it.. its a bit more complicated to use and you can have games on it.

An 83+ can have games on it too...but I think thats a waste of space and battery usage on calculators.

A TI-89 will definitely be an added benefit if you are about to take Calculus. The school I currently attend requires a TI-89 because of the technology usage. As someone stated earlier, you'll probably need it in future math courses in college. Plus it will save you some time on the AP exam if you can solve long problems by calculator.

one thing great about the ti89 is the CAS(computer algebra system) or sumthing like that. It lets u plug in an equation and the calc can factor it, simplify it, etc. once, i blanked out during a test and had no time to finish de moirve's theorom. i just plugged it in, and voila! the answer. saved me about 10% on that test. =D, plus the resolution is much better on the 89 than the 83. if u have the money, buy it! u wont regret it.

i have an 89, but i can't use it on the IB test or the ACT. grrrrrrrrr

I had a ti-83 for calc in high school, and got a ti-89 when I went to college... and I'll never go back, it comes in so handy in subjects like physics too with all those units and constants built in. But my advice is - keep both calculators, I've had teachers that don't allow 89's, but allow lesser calculators that don't have the integrate/differentiate, etc features.

YES.

The TI-89 will become your best freind.
