Hey guys I'm an incoming freshman and was wondering should I buy a Macbook Air through the ACT program. Is it worth it/are they trying to rip me off?

It’s 50$ cheaper through the ACT program, so I’d go for it. Plus, I’m fairly sure if you buy through that you get free 4 year warranty through Maryland. And a 100$ itunes gift card.

good deall thanks nicole :)

D1 went through the ACT program, and used the free warranty on 3 different occasions. My husband and I also purchased the same laptop through them and Dell sent out repair people a couple of times when we had issues. We’ve been pleased with the computers, but now 5 years later, we’re probably ready to replace ours (D1 got a Mac for Grad School needs last summer).

D2 went to school with a slightly used laptop we got on ebay and it lasted her 2 years until she bought a new Dell last summer. The one she got was not the “professional” type model that ACT offers, but she got everything she wanted/needed on it and has been thrilled with it.

If the are offering a $100 itunes gift card now, that’s a nice bonus!

Do they give you a loaner laptop if they send it out for repairs?

Yes. They give you a loaner. My son took his laptop in today for repair, and they provided a very good loaner laptop. The four-year warranty is great.

Awesome thanks Astrophysicsmom, coming up clutch again. Anyone have experience with the Macbook Air 13 inch screen?

Not the 13", but my daughter has the 11.6", which is a year old. Has been flawless.

I was at BestBuy the other day and I definitely wouldn’t want to go under 13", but that’s personal preference.

I’m going through the same thing…

Looks like the ACT program Macbook Pro 13 in would be 1,438.00 which is a 4 year warranty

But the regular Mackbook Pro 13 in would only be 1099.00 and ou could cover it for 3 years for an extra 183.00.

Maybe I have my numbers wrong and i didnt see the $100 itunes gc online but why is it soooo much more money for just one extra year of coverage? Is it worth it///has anyone else used the ACT or applecare?

It’s far more likely to break with each successive year.

I was wondering the same thing. Did anyone regret getting it for the fourth year or did they think it was worth it?

If you buy it through the ACT program at UMD, the four-year warranty is included at no extra cost. At orientation today, they said that warranty repairs can be performed at the University or any Apple store.
