Was considering nice new suit, blazer, maybe a new pair of nice shoes. Or do freshman not need to dress up for anything because there aren’t any Ross functions until second year?
Unless your son is still growing, I would invest in a new suit for him. He will need it soon or later. There are occasions when they would need to dress up (not necessary a suit) but I don’t think I can count on my kids to put on ‘pressed’ khaki and dress shirts. The few kids we know in Ross all have their suits with them.
If your son comes to campus looking to get involved in any of the Ross affiliated clubs (consulting, finance, business fraternity, etc) or even some non-Ross clubs as well, he will need a suit for interviews. This happens within three weeks of stepping on campus, and I was not prepared for that when I was a freshman. Treat him to a new suit, and if he does not know already, teach him how to tie a tie.
Post above is right on; and especially like the pointer about teaching to tie a tie. Navy blue or dark/charcoal gray (not black) suit is best. Plain, no pinstripes.
I also want to add that there’s a ton of professional development and recruiting events that happen (especially second semester), so in general quality business clothes are a good investment for anyone coming into Ross or doing business.
