Should I cancel my scores?

Hi CC, I just took the Jan sat today and feel pretty terrible about it. I was aiming for a 2300+ but it turns out that I already missed at least 3 on the math section and at least 1 on the writing. I am uncertain about how I did on the reading.

I am conflicted because I feel like most likely, i will hit around 2100-2200, but I don’t want to cancel it because there is that small glitter of hope for a 2300. Also, I have taken the sat once in my sophomore year and this will be my 2nd time my junior year if I don’t cancel the score. If I do not get around a 2300, I’ll have to take it for a 4th time, which I’ve heard could look bad. Help?

Are you aiming for elite schools? What were your previous scores?

If you didn’t list schools to send the scores to, then don’t cancel it. See how you did. They will use superscoring anyway. It doesn’t really make sense to take it again if you got 2100.

@miter94 I am aiming for elite schools and my previous score was 2130 (m:740 cr: 650 wr: 730).

@willow613 Do you know if most top colleges would care if I take the sat 4 times(this would be 3rd and I would most likely have to take it once more if i keep it)?

If you’re absolutely sure you got under 2300 this time, then cancel it. Just remember, the SAT isn’t so big a part of your application that you need to study for it 4 times. It’s time consuming (if you’re doing it properly), and that time is being wasted.

When preparing for the SAT, most people overestimate its importance. Don’t let it bring your grades down.

@dallascowboys1‌ I’m sorry I don’t mean to hijack your thread but I’m really stressed and needed some advice regarding canceling scores as well.

So I sat for the SAT for the first time in October and got a 2160 (M:770 CR:690 W:700 E:9)

This January I prepped real hard but had a nervous breakdown in one of the CR reading sections towards the end. Really messed up critical reading bad.

I’m expecting a 2200+ score, with M:800 W:800 CR:600-650

I’ll definitely take it for a third time even if I don’t cancel. But my friends and family are advising me not to cancel because it’s my only 2nd attempt and I’m expecting 800 in both W and Math. But from other sources, I’ve also heard that 3rd attempt is a bad idea for elite institutions and hence I should cancel this score.

Btw, I’m an international student aiming for the elite institutions in the US.

Any sort of advice and help will really be appreciated!

@AmericanDream69 you have your own thread.

Yeahh, hehehe, I made it after posting here. I’ll just remove my post.
