Urgent Help Regarding Cancelling Scores

Guys I’m having a really hard time in making a decision regarding whether I should cancel my score for the January 2015 SAT or not. I’m really fretting over this a lot anf wasting a lot of time. Any advice will be deeply appreciated <3

So I sat for the SAT for the first time in October and got a 2160 (M:770 CR:690 W:700 E:9)

This January I prepped real hard but had a nervous breakdown in one of the CR reading sections towards the end. Really messed up critical reading bad.

I’m expecting a 2200+ score, with M:800 W:800 CR:600-650

I’ll definitely take it for a third time even if I don’t cancel. But my friends and family are advising me not to cancel because it’s my only 2nd attempt and I’m expecting 800 in both W and Math. But from other sources, I’ve also heard that 3rd attempt is a bad idea for elite institutions and hence I should cancel this score.

Btw, I’m an international student aiming for the elite institutions in the US.

Any sort of advice and help will really be appreciated!

Do not cancel. 3rd attempts are completely fine, you just don’t want 5+ times. In addition, many colleges superscore, which means they take your highest section scores from across all your attempts and use those (your highest math, highest cr, highest writing). If your score went up, it will increase your superscore.

^what guineagirl96 said, don’t cancel. If the colleges you are applying to superscore, your superscore should go up.

Also, if you are applying to colleges next year (i.e. 2015-2016 year), you still have time.

don’t.

Thanks a lot guys! And yes, I’ll be applying to colleges next year. (2015-16)
So three attempts are completely fine right?

Yes.

You do not need to cancel these scores. I am a guidance counselor, and I can assure you that many, many students take the ACT/SAT more than twice. Do not worry.

Thanks to score choice most colleges dont even find out how many times you took the sats. At most they’ll know you took it three times. Im taking it a fifth time in May and im not worried. Congrats on your score though!
