I’m currently a sophomore taking AP Calculus BC, AP Psychology, and AP US Gov. I was wondering about taking AP Studio Art. One reason why I was considering taking it is because there’s no official exam “per se”; instead, you submit a portfolio. Is the course hard? Is it hard to get an A? How exactly are you assessed, in terms of quizzes, tests, and exams? Would it look odd on my HS transcript to college admissions officers (I really want to do pre-med/bio/biochem/etc.)? In terms of my art ability, I think I have some experience (particularly in drawing, using a pencil…painting, not so much). Also, another possibility: AP Music Theory (same questions). I was thinking about trying to take it soon to fulfill a fine arts requirement for my HS diploma. Otherwise, this summer, I think I will look into take Dual Enrollment Art History. Should I not worry about the rigor (I was just doing this as a GPA boost/pillow before IB) and just take a regular Art History/Music Appreciation course?
