Should I Continue With My College Applications?

I've been accepted to two college so far -- Global College of Long Island University and Concordia College -- both in New York. The thing is -- I think I made the most stupid mistake of my future college career. My top college choice is Global College of Long Island University because it's the only college in the nation, and probably the world, where students study in different countries for their bachelor's degree. It's a really cool program because I get to travel to Costa Rica for the first year, where I will live with a host family, learn Spanish, travel across South and Central America, do several internships, learn about International Studies, which is my planned major of interest. The second year I'll be in India or I can choose to do Comparative Religion, where I will travel to Taiwan, Thailand, India, Turkey in one whole year (Sophomore year). The third year, I will go to China or if I didn't do Comparative Religion, I can take that instead. The last year before graduating, I go to Australia or Ecuador for Environmental Studies and learn about aboriginal tribes. The last semester before heading to New York, where the main campus is, I have the option to choose whichever country I want to go to, to further detail my thesis. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because I will get to do what I love to do and since it's closely partnered with the United Nations, I will definitely be guaranteed an internship position when I get to New York after my studies abroad. In today's world, it is vital that we become true global citizens in order to be good leaders in society. Now my problem is that, Concordia College offered me a generous amount of scholarship funds and financial aid which basically covers everything I need for my college education. It however does not offer the excitement and wonders like Global College does. Global College so far, has given me 13,000 dollars in scholarship money and I'm still waiting for my financial aid package from them. Just a few days ago, I think I made the most stupid mistake of my future college career life because I told the school to withdraw my name because I've already committed myself on going to Global College. Now that my name is not their list anymore, I feel like I've lost a great opportunity because I don't know if Global College is going to give me enough money to fund my college experience. I mean, I really want to go to Global College, but since I don't haven't received my financial package yet, there's no way of knowing if it's going to top Concordia. I should not have told them to withdraw my name because now I'm left with one choice. Should I call Concordia and tell them to readmit me? Will that anger them? Or should I continue on with my applications for other schools, because I have three other schools that I'm in the process of finishing. What should I do?

For future reference, you could have omitted ~ 200 words from that post and still have gotten your point across…

Anyway, you should definitely finish your applications so you are not left with one option. I would call Concordia, politely explain to them that there was a misunderstanding and ask if there is anyway you can still be offered an opportunity to enroll. My guess is, if Concordia gave you generous scholarship money, they are interested in having you as a student and should be willing to offer you your spot again.

It might be best to do it as soon as possible before they redistribute your package to other financial aid applicants.

pch340 is spot on. I know kids that did the same thing you did and reversed it. Schools know that kids are kids and do foolish things sometimes. If you can’t reverse it than put all your efforts into making Global College happen and complete your applications if it is not too late already.

It sounds to me that you are sold on Global College – as an internationalist myself, I totally get it and your passions are all in the right place. I know that you are just starting you higher education, but here is a great grad school if you ever want to go into Global business. This is where I went and with this degree, I’ve lived and worked in over 22 countries and I am now multilingual. It is the highest ranked international business program in the world – you’d love it.
