should i delete my accounts? (what would happen)

(fyi i'm using a friend's account for this)

so i just realized how much admissions can find on the internet (and yes i realize i should have been paying more attention to this earlier) and while i don't think there's anything concerning about me, i'm getting a little bit nervous (and i don't really know if i'm being paranoid or reasonable). i've posted my stats on this board and i realized the other day that if i type in just a few of my stats, my threads on cc pop up, and admissions officers would be able to see pretty clearly that it's me. my cc posts are no big deal and i don't see anything wrong with asking for help on this forum, but i'm not comfortable with the idea of admissions looking through all my posts and such.

what's a little more concerning is that my regular username on this board is shared with a few other forums, where i take part in political debates. i haven't put anything hateful or violent on there, but i've expressed views that are somewhat controversial, and while i stand behind those views i don't want to get denied from a college because they see some posts and assume things about me, so i'm just a little concerned about that.

so i'm pretty sure i want to delete many of my internet accounts so that i don't have to worry about this, but i was wondering, if you delete a cc account, are the threads you created deleted? i don't want to delete my account if the records are going to be on here just the same. so do you think its worth it, and is there anything else i should be thinking about here?

You can’t delete a CC account. Or change your name. Or delete your posts.

You’re concerned that admissions officers will dig several layers deep into your identity? Matching your stats w/potential CC posters. Then matching that username with other sites to see your political views?

I think you’re seriously, seriously over thinking this situation.

Unless you are applying to schools with very conservative mission statements, I wouldn’t worry. Few admission officers have time to google applicants (I’m jealous of those who have that kind of time during reading season!) and we don’t have to agree with you to admit you.

ok, i had a feeling i was over thinking everything, but i was just having a minor freakout over the possibility. i guess i am just being paranoid, thanks for reassuring me :)

Actually, with a post count of 2, both on this thread, it would appear you’ve created a second account for yourself, which is a violation of the terms of service you agreed to when you signed up.

^i didn’t actually, the post count is off (she only made one thread which is why i kind of just took over her account for today), it’s been more than just this thread.

The OP’s account has a post from April 15th. It was just on one of the board’s that does not count in your post count.

Also @OP, I wouldn’t worry. You should be fine:)

Most probably won’t even check, but those that do won’t care unless you’ve been running around saying super-hateful stuff or talking about all the illegal stuff you’ve done.

Don’t worry, and good luck in admissions :)
