WashU deadline is cutting very close, and I recently realized that WashU has been on my radar for a couple years now, but I am not sure of a good reason that separates WashU from other top schools. If I didn't do ED to WashU, I would do regular to Princeton, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Yale, BC, WashU, etc. I know it's in the MidWest, so I thought that I would like the school there because of the people too, but I heard from someone that WashU is no different from East Coast schools (people from East Coast boarding schools hail there). Is this true? I am looking for close relationships with the professors, and liberal arts feel so I can explore many fields (have not decided which subject I want to go into yet); also, does St. Louis provide a lot of good experiences and opportunities like D.C. or NYC? I heard that the students don't really go into the city much. I also know that WashU has a really high ED rate, so that's part of the reason that I am considering ED.
So basically my question is, why should I apply to WashU? What is different about WashU that I should want to go, and that separates it from other top schools? Please answer ASAP.. I am making the decision today... Thanks!

btw, I have a 2270 SAT score, 1530 out of 1600.

I’m sorry in advance because this probably isn’t the answer you’re hoping to get. But if you have no idea whether or not to apply ED and you’re making the decision TODAY, you shouldn’t apply ED.

I’m sure you know that ED is binding, which means it’s a very important decision. You don’t know a thing about Wash U and you’re ONLY considering ED in terms of improving your chances. That’s not how it’s supposed to work. You’re applying to a lot of great schools, but your goal shouldn’t just be to get into the best school possible. It should be to get into a great school where you will fit in and enjoy everything that comes with it. You need to be 100% confident that Wash U is your first choice to apply ED there, and that’s not something that anyone can convince you of over the internet.

Thank you for your comment. I know it is such a sudden decision, but I have been thinking about it for a long time. I was pretty sure that I would do ED there, but my SAT scores became so much better and I guess I am thinking of other possibilities. But after all, I do want a school that’s a good fit for me, you know? I heard too many different things about WashU, and I guess I am looking for verification. I do want to know to WHERE I am committing myself ED.

Thank you for your comment. I know it is such a sudden decision, but I have been thinking about it for a long time.
Just to give you an example of who should apply ED. My daughter recently submitted her ED ap to WashU. She goes to a top 20 ranked high school in US and she’s in the top 5% of that school. She has a 35 ACT. Bunch of national awards. So her stats qualify her to go anywhere she wants. She loves WashU so much that she chose it over princeton, upenn, and columbia. I’m not trying to brag about her accomplishments, I’m just trying to point out that the fact that you got a higher SAT score and now think you can apply to better schools tells me that you shouldn’t do ED here. When she was trying to make her decision if she should do ED or not she compared all the schools she’s applying to and came to the conclusion that if she did regular decision and got in everywhere she would choose WashU over Princeton or Harvard or any other school on her list. That’s when you know you’re doing the right thing.
If you don’t have that feeling, don’t do it.

Hi, thank you so much for the advice momworried! I really appreciate it!
