Should I do marching band?

I did marching band throughout highschool and we were one of the top bands for our groups however it was extremely time consuming. Is marching band in college a bit less time consuming? Would it be good to try out my first year socially? I'm worried about juggling both marching band and my coursework at the same time.

hey buddy,

My former roommate did marching band for a large state school. Here were the pros and cons. She went to our campus 2 weeks early to train with the band, and was busy most weekends with band obligations. Check and see if you can join band as sophomore once you have settled in academically, or whether you have to join as a freshman.

Pro - you meet a lot of people right away who have similar interests as you. Basically you have a group of build-in friends and acquaintances from the beginning of college.
Con - you are busy during the fall semester with band, so you are not available to attend some of your floor activities or be around as much to spend time with non band people.

Pro - you meet people who have already taken your classes and can help you if you are struggling with a topic or professor. Many of your band friends will be in the same classes, so you can study together.
Con - your band schedule will mean you miss some study groups or have to schedule studying at unusual times (how good are you at reading on the bus?)

Take care,
