Should I double up in math?

I am currently a sophomore in high school with a decent schedule. I am taking AP Biology, AP World History, Honors English, Honors Geometry, Spanish 3, and Honors Trig/Precalculus.

I decided to double up in math because I knew that a group of other sophomores at my school were doubling up, but now I am thinking about dropping Honors Trig/Precalculus. If I drop the class, I can still reach AP Calculus BC by senior year.

I am thinking about dropping the class because I know that math is not my strength. I had a good grade in Honors Algebra 2 last year, but I am afraid that my grades will suffer if I double up in math this year. I am afraid that I will have less time to study for my other courses, and I am worried that I might not develop the best math skills I need to enter AP Calculus BC next year. However, I am also worried that if I drop Honors Trig, I might be "behind" my peers in the math department.

Will taking AP Calculus BC in my junior year look better for college? Will waiting until senior year affect my chances of getting into a competitive college? (I am not quite sure what I would like to major in, but I am looking into the medical field)

Honestly, if you’re worried about your grades, I would switch out of Trig/Precalc. You’re taking a lot of other high leveled classes this year too, and if you legitimately believe that a second math class could get in the way of you doing great, it isn’t worth the risk. Taking BC senior year would probably be fine.

Most schools only offer up to AP Calc BC anyway, and since you’re still on track to take that your senior year, I’d say you’re fine :)

Hi again. I have not quite decided what to do yet, but I will stick around for chapter 1 and see how it goes. My counselor said I can drop the class without any consequences until the 2nd marking period.

The only reason that I am still trying to decide whether or not to drop trig is because I know that other sophomores are taking it, and since it is a weighted class, my class rank might go down if I do not take it.

Class rank really isn’t that big of a deal tbh.

As a general question, wouldn’t you take Algebra 2 before Precalc

I would drop precalc. Precalc builds off of both geometry and algebra 2, so if you haven’t had both yet, it’ll be a struggle.

Yes you would take Algebra 2 before Precalc. I took Algebra 2 last year
