I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum so mods feel free to move this thread.

I'm currently a sophomore attending community college, enrolled in the engineering program. I began a "late-start" A&P course on Tuesday; we also had class this morning as well but I left midway through. I still don't have either of the required textbooks and the professor unexpectedly decided to do a lab today. I asked him if we would need the manual, he said yes, so I went to the school bookstore during our break only to find out that I did not have enough money on my debit card to fund the transaction. The obvious suggestion would have been to ask a classmate if I could have looked on but my professor seemed pretty anal and no one in my class offered, so I never returned to class.

I originally intended on taking between four and five courses this semester but I was late for registration and only managed to get into a calc and chem class, ideally I would have liked to have taken biology and physics as well. Now that I think about it though, I wouldn't have even been able to pay for tuition with that courseload. I wanted to take as many courses as possible to try and revive a really bad performance last year (my GPA is somewhere around 2.2). My family's income increased this past year so my financial aid would have been next to nothing had I applied, which I didn't even bother to do because I thought my academic performance may have prevented me.

So I decided to take A&P because I am studying to become a personal trainer. I know a lot of background about the subject but I really had no idea what to expect and quite frankly I feel overwhelmed. The class meets twice a week for a total of eight hours, mainly lecture. Just from attending one and a half classes I have already collected a list of terms that totals six pages. The only thing we are graded on in the class is lecture and lab exams memorization is a huge part of the class.

I have no doubt that I could do well in the class but I'm not sure if I'm quite willing to devote that amount of time to the subject. My professor said 12 hours a week of additional work would have you well-prepared for the course. I'm sure this is nothing out of the ordinary for a university student but its certainly nothing I am used to. I made the decision to register for this course rather lightly. I thought it would be a basic elective but it appears to be a very time consuming and in my opinion, boring course. I am the only person in the class not majoring in nursing or surgical technology.

I feel as though taking this course would detract from the level of immersion that you must have in the field of math and science in order to be successful in such a major. If I drop this course I will have more time to concentrate on my other limited studies. But that's just it. If I drop this course I will only be taking two courses, they won't boost my GPA much and I will just feel as though I'm not really a college student. I must make this decision soon if I wish to receive a tuition refund (1200 dollars which I desperately need). What do you guys think is the smartest move here? Thanks you all for reading.
