Should I drop bad grade in Physics C or keep it?

I didn't know where to post this thread, and I thought this area of the forum was best fit. I signed up to take Physics C, worked hard but ended up with a C+ for the first trimester. However, I talked to my counselor and he said I could drop the class, so instead of a C+ on my first trimester report card there would be a W (for withdrawal). However, I am not sure what to do - to keep Physics C or drop it. I'm not sure how colleges would react to a C+ vs. a W. Can someone offer me their advice? Thank you.

Some other information that might help:

My first tri classes & grades:

AP Chemistry B+
AP Physics C C+
Bio Ethics A
Eng Design Develop A
IB Espanol V SL A
Linear Algebra Dif. Eq. A-
Organic Chem I A-
World Lit II A-
~Health Family Livings A
~Senior Experience A

My overall GPA of first 3 years is 3.71 with a very rigorous curriculum (4 years of Chem, 4 years of Physics, 2 years of bio, and many eng. classes. All honors)

Last Year I took AP Microeconomics and AP Calculus AB.

MY SAT is 2090 superscore. SAT Math 2C is 790 and SAT Chem is 690.

I am applying to some very selective colleges such as Cornell, JHU, Tufts and UMichigan. I do not want them to think I am uncapable of an AP Course (1 test made the difference between an A in the class vs. a C+ but they will not know that).

Thank you!

It seems like the rest of your grades are good. I had a similar problem- I had a C+ for the first quarter for AP Calc BC, and now I’m halfway through second quarter and managed to bring my grade up to an A-. If you think that you are not trying your hardest and you can do better then stay in it. However if you feel it will not get better then drop it. I was admitted to 4 schools already and I have to send my midyear report to colleges that I applied to RD. all of my other classes are A’s and one B, so I plan on writing a letter to send in with my midyear report explaining how all of my extracurriculars and leadership positions prevented me from focusing on Calculus, and I have brought my grade up as a result of managing my time better.

Thank you for your thoughts Jazmine! Because my school uses trimesters, my mid-year report will arrive around the same time my regular decision schools come out. So they will not see any improvement in the class. It really comes down to whether I want my colleges to see a C+ or a Withdrawal. I also did not apply any colleges early action, other than my 1 safety, so this is really important.

P.S. I also plan to major in Biology/Biomedical Engineering.
