should I even apply?

i'm visiting my brother at U of C this weekend, and i'm afraid i'll end up falling in love with the school. however, I had not planned on applying because A) i've already turned in my app to my number 1 school where I'm fairly certain I'll get in and B) i don't think i have a very good shot. but... I suppose you could be the judge of that.

oh, and if I DO end up applying, I wanted to get it in by nov. 1, so after this weekend that will leave me a mere ten days to write some killer essays. or should i wait til january? anywho! my stats (well, the bare bones anyway):

GPA: 4.0 unweighted
class rank: 1 out of 75
ACT: 28 -- low, I'm aware.
activities: NHS treasurer, 3 yrs varsity tennis, michigan youth in gov, concert/marching band, big brothers big sisters, michigan student service award (200 hrs comm service), red cord honors recipient, honor student of year (sophomore), and others .. (ie camp counselor, presidential campaign volunteer)

and good teacher recs

please be honest! i don't want to waste my time/money applying if i don't have a decent chance.

If you want to go, apply. If not, don’t.

28 is pretty low, but everything else looks good. I would apply if you love it.

Yes! You never want admissions looks for. Plus you might end up finding your dream school! :)

*never know what…my bad haha

Yes apply! They know not everyone is a good test taker and your grades are superb! Talk to your counselor and have him/her write on your recommendation that you don’t test well under timed pressure. You have a good shot!

Dont be afraid to fall in love! If you truly believe Uchicago is the good school for you, in terms of academics, mission, location etc, then definitely apply. The only way to have 0% chance of admittance is to not apply.

But then, yes never expect to get in for sure and keep yourself in check, for the higher you let your imagination fly, the closer you’ll be to the stars if you do get in, but the more painful your fall if you don’t.

EDIT omg that was super cheesy, lol

Anyone else notice how low op’s gpa is? I recommend atleast 4.2 uw if you don’t want your app to end up in the trash bin

Always apply to a school you want to go to unless cost is a sure deterrent.

His gpa is the highest possible unweighted gpa. He has a perfect transcript.

Apply if you would want to go. Plus be ready for no fun and studying all the time at uchicago.

^seriously

^^from what I hear anyways, I would like to get a u of chi perspective though.

Apply! You have everything to gain and nothing to lose!

^Except like a $70 app fee.
