Should I bother applying?

Question 1: Should i even bother applying with my incredibly sub par SAT scores?
Question 2: If i should bother applying, is EA really the way to go? as of now i'm applying EA because i LOVE Chicago!

Female from CA
GPA: 3.84 weighted
SAT: 700 w, 660 r, 470 m
Current Rank: 5/525 (in ninth grade i was in the bottom half of my class)

other stuff:
- Immigrated here from Estonia. I'm a Russian citizen and perminent resident here.
- I've shown a significant upward trend in my grades since my 9th grade year. My gpa has gone from 2.67, 3.80, 4.00, 4.60 and now a 4.40 (unfortunately it dropped this passed semester due to my getting the flu the week of FINALS.. that stunk!)
- I have good EC's with commitment and leadership. They're all involved with volunteering and peer education on drug and alcohol related issues. Nothing amazing but I love what i do and plan to incorporate that into my essay
- I've already sorta started on my essays and plan to spend a long time perfecting them. I hope they turn out well! because i understand that in my situation they could be the "make or break" factor.

I guess I just need reassurance, or advice. I know my chances are very slim. that's obvious, but I've heard of people like me being accepted (following much debate from the admissions team). Chicago is an "unusual" school. I hope they can look past my numbers and see me for who i am. I plan to realy convey just HOW MUCH i've wanted to go the school and what caused me to do so poorly my freshamn year of high school.

dudes, you reponded to just about every other persons "chances" thread, but not mine? tisk, tisk. That makes me feel unloved. So c'mon, I know 40 of you looked at this, someone shoudl respond!

just apply, you could be pleasantly surprised

If you can, interview at UChicago. After you complete your EA application to UChicago, also apply to Bryn Mawr (another very intellectual school) - they may also look past the math score.

Go for it. You have nothing to lose, and you don't want to regret later for not having applied to a great school.

I think that you have a reasonable chance. Your math score is low, but you have a lot of positives. The upward trend is a huge positive, as is the class rank. I really don't think that they will keep you out just for that math score. The essays will be important. Yes, interview if at all possible. You can have a local alumni interview. Being sincerely interested in the school counts a lot at Chicago. I won't be surprised if you are admitted.
