Should i even bother with my low GPA?

GPA: 3.6 unweighted, i’m not sure about weighted
Courseload: all honors and AP’s

school is sort of competitive i guess? it’s number 11th in my state if that’s good.

also one more question: i know that barnard emphasizes ec’s but i only have two really good ones and then your typical volunteering/clubs. will only having two ec’s affect whether i get in or not?

I don’t know much about GPA because my school was so vague with its GPA calculation system… but maybe you should look at your rank at your school.
If you have two really good EC’s and then the “typical” clubs, then that may be fine. Quality > Quantity, I feel. Though, it’s not too late for you to be more active, either, since you’re still a sophomore.

Hey purplepoppy, I was accepted into Barnard with a 3.62 unweighted GPA. However, I spent most of my high school career being involved in EC’s I was passionate about. From seeing the stats of all the others accepted into Barnard, I highly doubt there is a checklist they follow when it comes to accepting students. You will just have to show them who you are. After that, it’s up to them.

You say you have two very good ECs, and then typical volunteering/clubs. If I take a step back and really look at my ECs, I only have one that was “really good”, but its “really good” because of the insane amount of effort and determination I put into helping it grow. I say, if you love Barnard for Barnard, go for it. Nobody can promise you that you’ll get in or that you won’t get in, but if anything, it’s definitely worth a shot.

the answer is yes. you should definitely bother. No matter what, always bother. They can’t possibly draw your name out of a hat if you don’t put it in.

if i did really badly freshmen and sophomore year (3.5 and 3.4 uw) and i do really well junior year (4.0) and then apply RD so Barnard will see my hopefully good midyear report, will that help make up for my freshmen and sophomore years?

Omg, if a 3.5 is bad, then no worries. I had a very similar GPA, except a 3.5 (UW) might’ve been my high end. This year I’m up to like a 4.3 because of all my APs. But yea, have a stellar midyear report. Every school loves an upward trend.
