Should I even take the ACT?

I live on the east coast, and though it's not officially said or anything, no one in my state endorses the ACT (VA). Counselors say it's not worthwhile, colleges with specific programs only take the SAT, ect. I'm already packed. I have to raise my SAT score and I have to take 3 more SAT II's before applying ED early next year. Should I just forget about it? I'd love to have less exams to take, AP's are already a pretty large burden.

Why don’t you take a few practice ACT tests and then decide? Maybe you’ll do better on it in comparison to the SAT. If you take the ACT with writing though, you don’t need to submit SAT II tests.

I would take it. I’m in the east coast too and i scored around a 2100 SAT and wanted to get it around 2250. I tried taking the ACT before taking the SAT a 2nd time and I ended up getting a 35 and i didn’t study as close to as much as I did for the SAT but it still feels so good because I’m done now. You should just give it a go and see if you get a really good score.

For some people the ACT is way better.

Personally, I liked the ACT a lot more. I felt that it tested things more relevant to school, and was much less of an IQ test. There are only 4 sections, so it is a lot less draining than the 10 (I think) section SAT. My scores were a lot higher (converted) on the ACT than the SAT.

I agree.
ACT much better suited me. You should take a practice test instead of the actual thing though and see how you do.
