Should I fill out my FAFSA now or wait till we move?

Hi, I’m a high school senior, my mom and I currently live with my grandparents. My mom is looking for an apartment now, because she got a job, so we’re looking to move around her work. But I don’t know when that’d be. We want to soon, but my mom is saving for the move and trying to find a decent place. Now, I’d fill it out for this address, but my mom pays no rent here of course, and my grandparents have high-middle incomes, compared to how we (my mom, siblings and I) usually live, we’ve always been and still are a very low income family. My family cannot contribute anything towards college, so I can only rely on grants and loans. My mom gets government assistance and such. So, wouldn’t the income in this house affect the grant aid I’ll get? Wouldn’t I get more grant aid if I fill it out when we’re living 3 people, on gov’t help, and a low income?

I’m sorry if this doesn’t sound good, I’m a little out of it today :frowning: So, I don’t know if I should fill out my FAFSA like now, so its in sooner but have it be affected by the income of my family in this house, or wait until we move and can submit the info with a low income? Can anybody help me here? This is all so confusing! Thank you.

You wouldn’t include your grandparent incime regardless of where you live. You would include your mom.

Do it now.

It is your 2015 situation that is represented on the fafsa.

Thank you for replying! So, would I report my mom’s job on it then? She started working this January.

No, last year’s income, 2015 income from Jan 1 to December 31.

Okay, thank you!
