My major is Electrical and Computer Engineering, computer concentration, and I figured that if I plan my courses a certain way, I can finish the undergraduate requirements by junior year. My question is: will it be the right thing to do?

If I do choose to finish by junior year, I'll have more workload (around 20 credits per semester). I've been managing fine so far (i'm a freshman) and doing fine in my classes. Also, I'll save around 10 grand.

If I choose not to finish earlier, I can probably fit in a minor (like Mathematics or Economics) along with the ECE major. Does having a minor make a big difference?

I am really confused right now and registration for classes begins in 3 days. Quick help/ suggestions will be appreciated.

PS: idk if it matters, but I have plans of attending graduate school.

I am a parent. I give you credit because most of my friends’ kids who are in engineering have a problem finishing up in 4 years, never mind 3!

Keep in my that your courses should get progressively harder. Do you like having free time? Is the money factor critical?

I think it is a lot of pressure & I don’t think I would advise my own child to do it. It would be nice if you could take some courses that you like even if they didn’t fit into your minor or major. College is when you get to try new things and I wouldn’t advise anyone to race through it unless the circumstances were dire.

You are thinking about this a little early - after your freshmen or sophomore year, do your best to find an internship in a company or field that you see yourself working at in the future. If you have a job offer after your third year, then you can seriously consider graduating early.

If you have no offers, staying in school for an extra year is better than being unemployed for a year.
