So basically i live in a small town, and got invited to do an internship in the nearest big city (hour away) for the whole summer, 8-5 M-F. Id have to live in either college dorms or a hotel, not get to hang out with my friends, miss a hiking trip i was planning and work for the whole summer. But… id get paid a lot as well as get good job experience, and free time on weekends at home.
Not even a question. Do it. If you’re getting paid well, I assume you’re part of an internship class. You’ll meet friends through work and set yourself up for an easier time looking for full-time work after graduation. You can take two weeks off for a hiking trip when you’re working full-time and getting paid to take the time off.
You should do it even if it’s not related to your major or intended career, as long as you are interested in it. You never know where a summer internship might lead you. It’s a great way to learn about something.
Um, yeah. That’s kind of the point if all this, no? Internships are hard to come by, esp well paid. You’d be silly not to, for what? A trip or hanging by the pool with friends?
You are in high school. I am going to be a naysayer and suggest you not do it. You are young for such a short time. You have many years ahead in which to work and make a name for yourself. If you were already in college, I would say do it, but you aren’t. You are a teenager and you work hard at school, if your other post is correct. I say get an easy part time job if you really want a bit of cash, and spend the summer having fun. I totally see there is benefit from doing this, but there is also benefit in relishing your freedom.
